Terms of Service

Welcome to Footymate. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, please don't use Footymate. These Terms sit alongside our Privacy Policy and Responsible Play page.

1. Who can use Footymate

You must be at least 18 years old to use Footymate. You're responsible for keeping access to your phone and login secure, and for everything that happens under your account.

2. Play-money games — no real-money wagering

These features exist for fun and friendly competition between fans. See our Responsible Play page for more.

3. Acceptable use

Footymate is a community. Keep it that way. You agree not to:

• Post content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or that infringes someone else's rights;
• Upload adult, violent or otherwise prohibited imagery (uploads are automatically screened, but you're still responsible for what you submit);
• Impersonate others, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or club;
• Spam, scrape, or use bots, or attempt to manipulate votes, tips, Footy IQ or leaderboards;
• Interfere with, probe, or attempt to break the security of the service;
• Use Footymate to promote real-money gambling or any illegal activity.

4. Your content and licence

You own the content you create. Your takes, comments, images and picks remain yours. To operate the app, you grant Footymate a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, reproduce and distribute that content within the service (for example, showing your take in the feed or your username on a leaderboard). This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies retained for backups, legal reasons, or already-shared de-identified aggregates.

You're responsible for your content and confirm you have the rights to post it.

5. Moderation, suspension and termination

We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms or harm the community, with or without notice where appropriate. You can stop using Footymate and delete your account at any time from Settings.

6. Service "as is"

Footymate is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We don't guarantee that ratings, tips, odds, stats or availability will be accurate, uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Footymate and its team are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to re-supplying the service or the reasonable cost of doing so.

8. Third-party services

The app relies on third parties (SMS via Twilio, media storage via Cloudflare R2, error monitoring via Sentry). We're not responsible for outages or issues caused by those providers, though we'll make reasonable efforts to keep things running.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll post the updated version here and change the "last updated" date; significant changes will be flagged in-app. Continuing to use Footymate after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
